About the Cavanaugh Flight Museum:
Located at Addison Airport, the Cavanaugh Flight Museum displays vintage military aircraft in its 50,000-square-foot building. The museum's Web site describes its mission as "promoting aviation studies and ... perpetuating America's aviation heritage; the museum fulfills its mission by restoring, operating, maintaining and displaying historically-significant, vintage aircraft, and by collecting materials related to the history of aviation."
Almost all the aircraft on display are in airworthy condition. Among the famous warplanes at the museum are the Sopwith Camel, the P-51 Mustang and the German Me-109. The museum's planes are grouped by era; represented are World War I, World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War aircraft, along with civilian aircraft. Artifacts in the museum's collection include aircraft accessories and engines, plus military vehicles and weaponry.
Other facilities at the Cavanaugh Flight Museum include an outdoor picnic area, an air conditioned canteen, a large aviation art gallery and a large gift shop.
The Cavanaugh Flight Museum is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and also on Sundays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. An admission fee is charged.
