About the Blue Lagoon:
Scuba diving in the middle of East Texas? Believe it. The Blue Lagoon is one of the truly unique outdoors activities in Texas.
Located north/northeast of Huntsville, the Blue Lagoon is an abandoned rock quarry that slowly filled up with fresh blue water from an artesian springs. Now it's a premier scuba diving location. There are even strategically submerged structures to explore underwater, including boats, planes and platforms.
The Blue Lagoon opened in 1986 specifically as a place to dive, and as a "classroom" to teach scuba diving. The lagoon is not open to swimmers. Non-divers are welcome, but only in the presence of registered divers.
The Blue Lagoon is open Saturdays 8 a.m.-10 p.m. and Sundays 8 a.m.-6 p.m. A daily rate applies for divers and non-divers alike, and tank rentals and air refills are available.
