About the American Wind Power Center:
Windmills dot the Texas landscape, and they are always favorites of photographers. The American Wind Power Center is dedicated the windmill, with well over 100 American-style, water-pumping windmills on display.
The center consists of an interpretive center, which contains some smaller windmills, and its grounds, on which sit most of its displays. Also in the interpretive center are antique hand pumps, windmill models, photos and other artifacts. A museum store offers plenty of items for purchase by windmill aficionados.
The big draw, though, are the larger, working windmills on the American Wind Power Center grounds. Among these are an Ozark folding wheel and a rare twin wheel - a windmill with two wheels instead of one.
The American Wind Power Center is located inside Mackenzie Park. It is open yearround Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and during May through August also on Sundays 2-5 p.m.
