About the American Airpower Heritage Museum:
The American Airpower Museum is located at the Midland International Airport. Its mission is "preserving the complete history of World War II military aviation and the memory of the men and women who built, serviced and flew the historic military aircraft of World War II."
The museum has 40,000 square feet of space to show off its hands-on, permanent exhibits. Among the items displayed are around 15 vintage aircraft. The American Airpower Heritage Museum also houses the world's largest collection of nose art - the paintings drawn onto the noses of WWII aircraft by their pilots. There are more than 30 original panels of nose art at the museum.
The American Airpower Heritage Museum collection also includes many other authentic World War II artifacts and memorabilia, such as uniforms of Allied and Axis countries, armament, photographs, weapons and equipment.
The museum is open Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays and holidays (except Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas) noon-5 p.m. Admission is charged.
