About the Legends and Lawless Modern Western Museum:
A "modern museum of the older West," the Legends and Lawless Modern Western Museum is housed in a modest building that appears (outside and inside) more like a residential home. It offers to visitors the collection of owners and proprietors Harry and Nancy Brown of Mount Pleasant.
The museum may be best known for its large collection of John Wayne memorabilia, which includes several commemoratie firearms, along with commemorative knives and plates, plus a huge collection of John Wayne media (videos, etc.).
A gun collection includes a Third Model Dragoon from the first half of the 19th century and an 1851 Colt Navy. There are artifacts from the U.S. Cavalry, Winchester rifles and more for enthusiasts of the Old West.
According to the museum Web site, "This museum or collection was designed and built not to depict how the West really was, but rather to be enjoyed like it should have been." No, we're not really sure what that means.
But the Legends and Lawless Modern Western Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday for a small admission fee.
