About the Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center:
This facility allows visitors to experience a swamp tour right inside the city. The Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center covers apporximately 250 acres, over part of which is portions of the Cypress/Tupelo Swamp.
Around the groups visitors will find greenhouses brimming with plant life, including many different flowering plants, along with a bat house, a beaver colony, numerous different birds and other wildlife.
A 1,500-foot boardwalk can be used to walk over parts of the swamp. Public tours are free but are available in group form only. Groups must be a minimum of 12 to a maximum of 24. No children under four are allowed on the public tours. A more in-depth experience is available through the center's environment education programs.
