About the Museum for East Texas Culture:
The Museum for East Texas Culture is housed inside the red-brick edifice of the old Palestine High School building, which was built in 1915-16. The building is a Texas Historic Landmark and is on the national Register of Historic Places. The museum itself opened in 1982.
The museum displays artifacts and exhibits the tell the story of this part of Texas, including a vintage classroom, a railroad memorabilia room, a black history room, a fire department room and a refurbished caboose. The museum also hosts events throughout the year, including the Heritage Balloon Festival. The Museum for East Texas Culture is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays 1-4 p.m. There is a small admission fee.
