About the Interurban Railway Station Museum:
Located in Haggard Park in Downtown Plano, the Interurban Railway Station Museum memorializes the history of a rail line that connected parts of what became the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
The Texas Electric Railway ran from Denison to Dallas beginning in 1908, and on Dec. 31, 1948, the Denison to Dallas Interurban made its last run. The rail station that served the Interurban was abandoned until 1990, when a restoration began that converted it into today's Interurban Railway Station Museum.
Sitting outside the stationhouse is the Interurban itself, one of the original electric rail cars that ran through Plano.
The Interurban Railway Station Museum includes many artifacts associated with the Interurban line as well as exhibits focusing on the history of Plano.
The museum is open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on weekdays and 1-5 p.m. on Saturday. Tours may be arranged by calling the Plano Parks and Recreation Department at 972-941-7250.
