About the Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark:
As they like to say in their commercials, Schlitterbahn water parks are the "hottest, coolest time in Texas." You might agree after visiting one (the original is in New Braunfels). The Travel Channel, among other experts, has named Schlitterbahn the No. 1 water park in the United States.
This Schlitterbahn is on the tip of Texas in the resort beach town of South Padre Island. Don't go around Spring Break time or this area will be overrun with (often drunken) college students. Other times of year, it makes for a good family getaway.
Visitors can float the Rio Aventura, and endless "river," from ride to ride within the park. The Sea Trek is one of the newer attractions, an "interactive marine life experience." There are numerous water rides, wave pools, boogie board areas, beaches and much more. If it's a water ride, they've probably got it at Schlitterbahn (and don't worry, there are plenty of stillwater areas, too, where younger children or adults who want some calm waters can hang out).
Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark is open seasonally, usually from late April through late September, on designated days. Be sure to check their website or call ahead when planning a visit.
