About: Memorial Park Golf Course has been voted the best municipal golf course in Texas numerous times by several publications, and is considered one of the best municipal courses in the U.S. Architect John Bredemus, who designed Fort Worth's famed Colonial Country Club, called Memorial Park Golf Course his "greatest golf course ever." Memorial Park open in 1923 as a 9-hole private course, but by the following year had been acquired by the City of Houston and expanded to 18 holes. Memorial Park hosted the PGA Tour's Houston Open from 1951 through 1963, and many golf greats have strolled its fairways. The course gradually fell into disrepair in the 1970s and 1980s, but in the mid-1990s the city of Houston spent millions restoring the course to its former glory. The course is long at 7,200 yards, and tight with towering trees all around the track. The course is convenient to Downtown, but be advised that tee times are difficult to get, and finding good parking can be a challenge.
