About: Say you're one of the hottest designers in the golf course industry, and you've been asked to turn a perfectly flat cotton field into a golf course capable of hosting NCAA championships. What do you do? If you're Tom Doak, you excavate 15 feet down, then start building back up. The result is The Rawls Course, owned by Texas Tech University and featuring mounding, elevated tees and greens, and even some modest elevation change as a result of Doak's digging. The parkland-style course is meant to mimic the contours of the South Plains Caprock. Fairways are big, greens are contoured, bunkers are deep, and the wind is always a factor.
