About: The Quarry Golf Club, just two minutes from San Antonio's airport, is a tale of two nines. The front nine plays across mostly flat land that is bounded on one side by a major highway and on the other by the backs of apartment buildings and office buildings. It's a very nondescript setting. The back nine, however, winds down into and then up out of an old rock quarry pit, hence the name of the course. The back nine is what gives this course its reputation, but many aficionados of golf course design actually believe the front nine holes, despite their setting, to be as good as or better than the back nine holes. The Quarry is 6,740 yards from the professional tees, and just 6,128 from the championship, and is a par-71. A word of warning: if you plan to play on a summer afternoon, be aware that the back nine gets extremely hot, with the heat radiating off the rock walls. However, because of this, you can find some exceptional deals and specials being offered by the club during the hot San Antonio summer.
