About: A former private country club, Woodlake Golf Club still offers memberships but is open to daily fee players. Opened in 1972 with a design by the iconoclastic Desmond Muirhead, Woodlake Golf Club was the site of Ben Crenshaw's first professional victory. Woodlake hosted the PGA Tour Texas Open several times in the early 1970s and also hosted an LPGA Tour event during that time period. Woodlake is a par-72 that plays 6,691 yards from the back tees. Trees can cause problems on some holes if you miss the fairway, but most fairways are not difficult to find. The greens are generally elevated a few feet above their fairways and are usually in excellent shape. When Woodlake Golf Club is hosting an important local amateur event or a Texas Open qualifier, the greens at Woodlake are among the fastest in San Antonio.
